From GC to Nanny in London

From Early Childhood Educator on the Gold Coast to Nanny in London – A dream becomes reality.

Have you ever dreamt of moving overseas and pursuing your dream career? That’s exactly what ACE student Molly Moore is doing in just a few weeks, thanks to her hard-work and completion of our Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

We sat down with her to find out exactly how studying with ACE has helped her achieve her goals and move to London to be a Nanny.

ACE: Molly, tell us about your ECEC journey.
MM: I worked at Hyland Park Superkids and absolutely loved working with children. I wanted to get better knowledge and information to put into my work, more understanding of different milestones of each age group. Another educator at my centre was already studying with ACE, so I met Deb Maunsell and I signed up for the Diploma.

The biggest lesson I learnt while working and studying is to never give up, you may have some good or bad days, I’ve wanted to give up so many times but having an amazing staff at work and Deb as a teacher have all pushed me to be better and I really think that’s what I’ve learnt to do in the past few years. I couldn’t recommend Deb any higher. Now I’m currently not needing someone else to help push me to achieve my goals, I’m making them myself and achieving them.

ACE: We hear you have accepted a job as a Nanny working in the U.K. and that the Diploma of Early Childhood really helped – that’s super exciting!
MM: I’ve always wanted to become a nanny since I was 16, I’ve dreamed of travelling overseas and having a special bond with children. I was planning to do nannying after school but once I finished high school, I got a full-time job. I have now worked with every age group and have a strong understanding of all ages in the early years. This year I got thinking about my biggest dream, bite the bullet and move overseas and do nannying as I will have the Diploma qualification and work experience thanks to ACE and Deb.

I got in touch with a global work & travel company and signed up. When I was being interviewed for nannying overseas, all the families asked about my experience and were pleasantly surprised that I had a Diploma – apparently not many girls applying to be a nanny have the qualification and they really liked that I did. It was such an amazing experience talking to all sort of cultures and lifestyles they have over there and it’s very different than here. I recently had one interview with a family and I was sold. Out of all the interviews I had, I fell in love with this bubbly family and they told me at the end of the phone call “I need you in my life, I will fight to have you as my mother help” which is what they call a nanny. The next day I got a confirmation letter moving to the next step with them. Very soon I’ll be moving to a new country and becoming a part of a new family. I am beyond grateful for this experience.

ACE: What’s next for you?
MM: I’m so excited to see where my future is going, I’m moving to a beautiful country with so much culture. I am excited to show my childcare experience and help another family achieve great things. I have planned on my way back home in 2 years’ time, I would like to stop into a third world country to do volunteer work in a child orphanage for 3-6 months. When I’m back in Australia, I would love to go on and do my teaching degree!

Sounds like the adventure has just begun, we can’t wait to follow your journey Molly.
