Pathways & Strive Launch at ACE Lismore

Pathways & Strive Launch at ACE Lismore

06 November 2025

ACE Community Colleges in Lismore is proud to launch a series of entry level courses which are entirely designed for everyone looking to improve their literacy, numeracy and study skills.

ACE Lismore Manager Natalie Hannah says “we really want to ensure that people in our region have access to fundamental training that is purposefully structured to support their capacity to tackle a course and move onto employment. That begins with improving literacy and job-related capabilities including numeracy.

In response to overwhelming requests, we have designed four short courses, these courses offer different levels of skills development, and outcomes”.

Pathways 1 and Pathways 2

These are the entry point for people who struggle to read and write simple texts, make simple calculations in day-to-day life, use computers, lack the confidence to speak in unfamiliar group settings and to take on study for career development.

In these courses students will improve their spelling and punctuation, build their vocabulary for life and work, use math operations to calculate for daily tasks such as budgeting, shopping and checking bills. They will also learn how to speak more confidently in unfamiliar settings and how to use technology for learning.

The FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways has been broken into 2 short courses, students can participate in Pathways 1 or Pathways 2 or combine the 2 to make a full qualification.

Strive 1 and Strive 2

Strive 1 is the next step, and focuses on reading and writing for the workplace, looking at text structures and industry language, using digital technology for work and learning and using data, fractions, decimals and percentages in workplaces.

Strive 2, focusses on reading for better comprehension, improving your typing skills, handwriting, using maths for everyday measurement and preparing for further career study or the workplace.

Students will gain a full qualification in FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Vocational Pathways by participating in both Strive 1 and Strive 2.

All four courses are fee free for eligible peoples:
‘Ensuring Access to Foundation Skills Training is a joint initiative between the Australian and New South Wales governments.’
