Support Makes All the Difference

Our students are constantly inspiring us with their stories, and Sanjeet is no exception. When thinking about what he wanted for his future, he knew he was ready to learn new skills and explore a career centred around supporting others.
“I wanted to get into the care and support sector and learn the right skills to support older people and people with disability. I enjoy helping people and building genuine connections, so I felt this was a career path that suited me.”
And so, he applied for the Certificate III in Individual Support, specialising in Ageing. And it was a hugely positive experience at the Murwillumbah campus!
“The best part was definitely the support I received from my trainer Jo, and the Student Services team. Jo was amazing throughout the course. She was always patient, encouraging and happy to explain things whenever I was unsure. I always felt comfortable asking questions or asking for help, which made studying much easier. The Student Services team was also really helpful whenever I needed assistance. I found the study materials straightforward and useful for understanding how what we learned applied to real situations.”
When reflecting on any challenges faced, Sanjeet shares that balancing work and study with other responsibilities was at the forefront. But he managed to stay dedicated and find his way. “I stayed organised, planned ahead and worked through things one step at a time. Whenever I got stuck, I reached out to Jo or Student Services, and they were always there to help.”
Sanjeet is now on the way to completion of his qualification, and it has been such an empowering journey for him. “The course gave me more confidence and a better understanding of how to support people in a respectful and person-centred way. It also gave me practical skills and opened up new opportunities for me in the care and support sector.
I would say just give it a go. It can be difficult to balance study with work and other responsibilities, but it is definitely possible. Don’t think it’s too late to start something new. Stay organised, ask for help when you need it and keep going. Having the right support makes a big difference.”
