About this course
Printmaking is a timeless artform, turning plain cloth into a versatile textile by transferring designs onto fabric.
In this comprehensive short course, you will discover the ins and outs of the printmaking process and go home with unique pieces of your own.
- Explore the history and application of this method, familiarise yourself with essential tools and materials.
- Practice print sampling on paper, before learning various dyeing techniques like tie dye, shibori and lino block printing with two colours on cloth.
The possibilities are endless as you tap into creative thinking and use your own ideas to apply custom designs.
This course runs for four sessions, over four consecutive weeks (excluding public holidays) at our Lismore campus, and no previous printmaking experience is required.

Jan Levy began her career in printmaking in Java during the 1970’s, studying under a Batik master in Jogjkarta Indonesia. Since that time her interest has covered many mediums. When she returned to Australia, her textile work developed into a short course, focussing on technique and design principles for students.
Her work on Cabbage Tree Island with ‘The People of the Reeds’, provided an opportunity for women to explore self-expression through printmaking, and incorporated exhibitions to showcase their art.
Jan has recently completed a Diploma of Visual Art from Glasgow, Scotland working on experimental printing techniques and expanding her own skills and knowledge. She has worked for ACE Community Colleges for over 22 years as a trainer in various fields and is thrilled to return for the Print Your Ideas course.
