Students across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers are abuzz after hearing about our practical, hands-on training included in the Certificate III in Individual Support. Friends, this isn’t your typical, nose in the books experience.

Throughout the 20-week program, students not only learn the important knowledge-based theory that underpins work in the care industry. But also participate in interactive, activity-based exercises, designed to prepare for success in the sector.

Students complete units of study that require simulated assessments. This is essential to practice personal care tasks, manual handling techniques and infection prevention and control practices to industry standards.

What is involved?

• Use of our specialised training mannequin for a realistic experience (dressing/undressing, shaving, changing continence aids, hoists/bed lifts/wheelchair use)
• Thickened fluids activities to show, make and explore fluid thickness levels to assist clients with dysphagia in safe eating routines
• Medication support with personalised Webster-paks as a training resource
• Brushing, flossing, tongue scraping and examining dentures and all things oral care
• Workplace health and safety procedures, safe fire evacuation, and common policies
• Donning and doffing PPE, hazard control with spill clean ups and scenario role plays
• Use of Glitter Bug product to teach proper handwashing techniques
• Putting on TED stockings using specialised gadgets
• Practice taking blood pressure, blood glucose, and other common daily health checks to understand safe readings/levels
• 120 hours of work placement onsite at local care facilities
