This one day only course is entirely focused on developing your knowledge and skills. Assisting you to build your capacity to stay safe when working with challenging client related behaviours, including clients with a range of mental and or physical disabilities.
BART is being offered fee free to all current and former students of ACE Community Colleges Lismore who have completed (or are enrolled in) Certificate III in Individual Support, or any of our Ageing or Disability qualifications.
About the trainer
The BART trainer is Andy Kelly.
Andy has been a specialist Mental Health Nurse and educator with over 40 years of experience in clinical, management and training roles in the health, community, mental health, aged care, disability and tertiary education settings.
Andy has been a specialist lecturer in clinical and non-clinical mental health qualifications courses in industry, hospitals, TAFE, RTO, and higher education settings. He has previously won a State Nursing Excellence Award and has been nominated for the Margaret Tobin Award for Excellence in Mental Health Service.
Andy brings vast clinical experience to his teaching, and his clinical stories add colour and meaning to participants’ learning experiences.
Andy is an accredited Principal Master Mental Health First Aid trainer and has developed ‘Self-Protective Behaviour’ (SPB) and ‘Behaviour and Response Training’(BART), programs designed to improve staff safety and effectiveness when working with individuals who use challenging and high-risk behaviours.
