career start

Career Start supports Queensland job seekers to start their career or move into more skilled roles or full-time employment.

You can participate in either a general training pathway, or an employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway. You’ll receive reduced-cost entry-level training aligned to the skill outcomes required by industry.

Career Start provides eligible Queenslanders with:

• access to certificate III qualifications in priority and emerging industries
• access to apprenticeship and traineeship training in priority and emerging industries
• access to lower-level qualifications identified by industry as the entry point for jobs
• expanded access to foundation skills such as language, literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and employability skills
• increased access to training in regional and remote areas
• supported training pathways for women and priority cohorts to take up skilled careers.

Career Boost helps Queenslanders to level-up at work, enabling them to grow and apply their skills to existing or new roles, and support productivity growth and workplace innovation.

The program delivers training to help individuals develop the higher-level skills needed to secure employment, advance their careers, or progress to further education and training.

TRAINEESHIPS

Traineeship fees depend on the units of study your employer requires you to complete and your eligibility for a fee concession. We are here to help. Please contact our Student Services team for pricing on your specific qualification.

Fees are based on nominal hours. A nominal hour is the number of hours a unit of competency is expected to take for delivery, learning and assessment.

• Concession Fee = $0.64 per nominal hour
• Non-concession Fee = $1.60 per nominal hour

Skilling Queenslanders for Work Program

Skilling Queenslanders for Work helps eligible Queenslanders develop skills, gain qualifications and provide direct assistance to enter and stay in the workforce.

The programs are delivered across the state by community-based organisations, local councils, Parents and Citizens’ and Parents and Friends associations.

The initiative offers 8 programs that deliver training to improve skills and employment opportunities. The programs focus on supporting:

• young people, including those in and transitioned from out-of-home care,
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,
• people with disability,
• mature-age job seekers
• women re-entering the workforce
• veterans and ex-service personnel
• people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and
• recently released prisoners.
