Learning Never Stops
14 April 2026
Before studying with ACE, Alma worked as a Marine Biologist in her home country, the Philippines. After moving to Australia and settling in Murwillumbah, she looked for work in her field but found limited local opportunities.
Open to new possibilities, she accepted a role as a cleaner at an aged care facility close to home. What began as a convenient, temporary position covering maternity leave soon became a turning point in her career.
After working for a year in the facility, Alma’s confidence grew, keen to pursue a future in the sector as an assistant in nursing or carer. As her contract was ending, she applied for a company scholarship to complete the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) and was successful in the position! She has since completed her studies, graduated and is fully qualified in a brand-new trajectory.
“This qualification gave me a big opportunity in the nursing/care industry. The best part about ACE is the hours, flexibility and the course schedule. It is very practical that you can work and study at the same time.
I love the people and trainers there, they are really excellent at their job. When it comes to course materials, they are very accessible. I hope my story can inspire someone in the community. Learning never stops, no matter what your age and status!”
Thank you for sharing Alma, it just goes to show that it’s never too late to expand your horizons, learn new things and change your world.
