Alison is a chef, sustainable food consultant, writer, educator, speaker and organic food gardener. If you dig deeper into the Alison garden of expertise, then her work to encourage corporate responsibility and her skills as a community engagement specialist and social environmental activist come to light.


Based in the Byron Shire since 2010, Alison recently launched ‘Fork in the Field’ www.forkinthefield.com, a business that delivers cooking and growing workshops, practical sustainability education and range of 'on the stove' local products that have been designed to educate consumers on the value of our farmers and the importance of sustainable food production.

 

Alison has delivered creative and innovative sponsorship strategies and food activism for GM foods, Sustainable Seafood, Farmers' Markets and School Kitchen Gardens and Indigenous Food. She has worked with Centennial Park Foundation, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, and since moving to the Northern Rivers has contributed to local business initiatives including the “Kitchen Garden of Ideas,” Taking Care of Brunswick Community Strategic Plan. Alison has an ongoing commitment to supporting Not for Profit Organisations and community. She worked with SlowFood Sydney for four years, an international group which counteracts fast food and the disappearance of local food traditions.

 

In her role as a food writer, Alison contributes recipes and articles to several industry magazines including Sprout, a celebration of local food, producers and cuisine and a forum for community organisations, government agencies and industry groups to put forward their messages of sustainable food systems. As a devoted advocate for a food economy that is ‘good, clean and fair’ Alison writes on issues relating to food culture, ethics and history. Alison is also a guesthost on a local community radio Bay FM in her capacity as a local chef.
