You will be qualified to carry out activities related to maintaining an individual's well being through personal care and/or other activities of living, provide services to individuals with complex needs, work with groups of older people (which may include training & support to promote independence), report to service managers, liaise with professionals & other service providers and, if required, supervise a limited number of other workers. Entry requirements include six compulsory units from Certificate III in Aged Care (CHC30208) or equivalent.

This qualification is the national entry level qualification for people who want to work in the Community Services industry and is relevant to community work delivered through a broad range of services which provide support to individuals and groups. This level is appropriate for support workers, caseworkers and client contact officers. Generally, these positions have direct contact with clients, identify presenting needs and refer to appropriate services and support. Some of the modules covered can go towards a Certificate IV for those who may want to take their studies to the next level.

Certificate III in Children's Services (CHC30708)
This is the standard national qualification for child care workers and will suit those wishing to work with children or already involved in child care. Successful completion will enable you to seek employment in the childcare industry as a childcare assistant, family day care provider, pre school assistant or nanny. During the course you will be required to attend approx 100 hours of classroom workshops. These workshops are designed to support your independent home study which will occupy approx one day per week. You will also be required to undertake about 100 hours of work experience (approx one day per week) in the childcare industry. You need to commit to approx three days per week total for the duration of the course. Students must submit to a Working with Children check and be able to sign a Prohibited Persons Declaration. Prerequisites are good written and verbal communication skills and being physically able to undertake the job. The course fee includes all workbooks and an Apply First Aid course with Certificate.

Diploma of Children's Services (CHC50908)
In response to demand for flexible and affordable delivery of this qualification, we have divided the course into 5 clusters and are offering evening workshops supported by self paced assessments and workplace observations. Students can enrol cluster by cluster rather than enrolling in the whole course up front. Clusters will be scheduled to be delivered every 3 months allowing participants to complete the full course between 6 months 18 months. As there will be ongoing enrolments, new enrolments can be taken at any time. This qualification covers workers in childrens services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. At this level, workers have responsibility for supervision of other staff and volunteers and, in most states, it is the highest qualification required at director or service manager level for childrens service centre-based care. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to work independetly, under broad guidance, to promote individual and group wellbeing in community and residential settings. Relevant occupation titles may include: assessor, family support worker, case coordinator, group facilitator, case worker or manager, pastoral care counsellor, client service assessor, Ppstoral care manager, community services worker, program coordinator or manager, community worker, senior youth officer / chaplain, Social welfare worker, coordinator family service, support facilitator, early intervention worker, welfare worker. The course will be offered by face to face evening workshops (2 evenings per week), flexible delivery, self paced learning and 400 hours of vocational placement. It is designed to suit existing workers. The length of the course will depend to some extent on qualifications already held. An Apply First Aid certificate is included. The course provides substantial credits towards a university Social Science degree.
